Flexibility is our middle name!

Earning Your GED

What is the GED exactly, anyway?

The General Education Development Tests are 5 tests: Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Writing. Once you have successfully completed all five, you will have achieved your High School Equivalency. For more information about earning your GED in Nova Scotia click here.

Who can write their GED?

To be eligible to write your GED tests you must be 18 years of age or older, not currently in school, and you must not have a high school diploma recognized by the NS Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

ESMV Literacy
Three reasons to get started:
  1. Because you are worth it! Achieving your GED, or continuing your education, can increase your confidence, self esteem and your pay wage. Invest in yourself!
  2. Try something new! If you’re tired of doing the same old thing, education can open doors for you. Follow your dreams!
  3. Set a good example. Children learn and do what they see. Help your kids to continue learning and to value education by showing them that you do too!

E3 Program

Education, Essential Skills, Empowerment

Our Essential Skills programming is designed to empower you with learning opportunities that matters in your life. We can support you in gaining the training, knowledge, and skills needed to participate fully in your community, at work, and in school.

Education is Key

We all know that education is the key that opens doors to opportunities. You hold the key to your future for a better tomorrow. Now is the time to invest in you. There are seven days in a week, and someday isn’t one of them. If it is learning to read or studying for your GED, have faith in yourself, take the leap, call on us to help, and just BEGIN.

Chrome, Books, and Bytes

This fun and innovative Essential Skills program is designed to increase your digital knowledge by using Chromebooks and other devices and introduces adult readers to audiobooks, and e-readers while exploring culture, history, travel, current events, food, and more through the lens of the selected books. The group will also get to try new recipes together, eat, journal, chat, and share. Print copies of the books will be available as well.

Blended Learning and Supports

ESMV Literacy offers blended learning opportunities, meaning you can work from home, in class, or some of both. Our instructors can offer classes face to face, through zoom, and can keep in touch with email, text, and phone calls. We know that for some people transportation and childcare can get in the way of your goals. If this sounds like you, get in touch with us. We can help!

Tech Connect

Our digital literacy program, Tech Connect, teaches 5 modules that range from basic computers, ipads, tablets and phones to more advanced knowledge such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Modules also include learning how to safely engage in social media platforms such as  Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, TikTok and Instagram for work or pleasure.
